History of the school :

Edouard Herriot, Lord Mayor of Lyon, created Cibeins School of Agriculture back in 1918. Today, our school is known as Cibeins Agricultural high school. There are about 450 students aged 15-22 : 60 % male and 40 % female. Most of them, board at the school so as to enjoy Cibeins’life all week.

Farming estate and technical workshops :

The farm still belongs to Lyon but is managed by the school. It spreads over 125 hectares of arable land around the college. It is a wonderful pedagogical tool for students and, moreover, it has recently been modernised.

Production :
We grow a wide variety of plants and cereals like wheat, sunflower, barley, summer rape, alfalfa, etc. We feed our dairy cows and sheep on this production. We also sell part of our production. No Genetically Modified Organisms are allowed on our farm.

We breed :
  • Poultry : free range chicken, turkey and capon. Our poultry carry a French quality label and certificate : “Label Fermier de l’Ain”
  • Sheep : 120-130 Texel ewes, Charolaises
  • Dairy cows : 50 Prim’Holstein, average of 11,000 litres per cow
  • Dogs : 20 adult dog kennel to allow 50-60  “L.O.F.” puppies a year (equivalent to Kennel Club Certificate).
    10 different breeds.
  • From 2002 on : cats.

Our milk production ranks first on a technical level.


Education, Vocational Training, Recruitment :

Students aged 15 can apply to our high school to join the fifth form or tenth grade (100 students).

The following year, they can choose between to curricula or programmes

  • Biology
  • Agronomy
  • Protection of the Environment
  • Garden design
  • Agronomy
  • Animal Breeding

leading to a Science degree :

  • "Baccalaureat Scientifique"
  • At the end of upper 6th form or 12th grade

leading to a Technical degree :

  • "Baccalaureat STAE"
  • At the end of upper 6th form or 12th grade

Students aged 18 can apply to our college to join a two-year course in :

  • Marketing
  • Food Technology
  • Foreign Languages
  • Animal Breeding
  • Agronomy
  • Biology

leading to :

  • a Higher National Diploma
  • in Agribusiness

leading to :

  • a Higher National Diploma
  • in Animal Breeding

After that, our students are able to either work or join university to prepare a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree .

Others students aged 15-18 apply to our vocational training school to study :
. Dog breeding
. Continental Fish  Farming
. Farming Business Administration

Cultural and Rural Development :
Cibeins Agricultural High School’s students and staff are involved in many activities on local and regional levels :
. Holstein auction
. Art exhibitions
. Yearly Sports Tournament on Ascension Day
. International Cooperation (Czech Republic, Great Britain, Ukrain and Sweden…)
